California Trip, September 2014

Wednesday, September 24

Checked out of our Inn and drove up the coast along highway 101. We stopped for lunch in Morro Bay, a beautiful fishing inlet. Ate at the Dockside Fishery, which reminded us of Point Loma Seafood in San Diego.

While we ate we were entertained by sea lions and a cormorant, who dove way beneath the surface. He came up once with a huge fish and swallowed it in one gulp.

We wandered down the dock afterward and explored the fishery. Fishing boats were coming in and leaving as we watched. They would unload the fish into tanks and go out for more.

We pulled into our hotel which is not far from the Hearst Castle, between Cambria and San Simeon. We are right on the ocean, with a beautiful view from our balcony. We can walk right out back and hike the beach.

While on our hike we came across huge swaths of sea kelp, mussels and sea anemones. It was low tide. We also happened across a sea snail.
