Switzerland through Austria into Bavaria, Aug 11

The Swiss are creative engineers when it comes to getting through mountains.

Driving through the Tirol area of Austria (kind of a panhandle between
Switzerland and Germany) we came across this pristine lake...

..and behind us was a medieval castle. While we drove through this area
of Austria, we came across a terrible car accident involving crushed vehicles
and a care-flight helicopter. Fortunately, we had the GPS with us and
were able to find another way around the traffic jam.

At last we crossed into Deutschland and Hohenschwandau in
Bavaria, where we got this somewhat spooky shot of "Mad
Ludwig's" castle. Ludwig II was Maxmillian II's son. When he became
king at a very young age, he decided to build this huge, fairytale
castle on some ruiins atop a mountain. It's the castle after which
Walt Disney patterned Cinderella's castle for Disneyland.
