Europe Trip, August 2007

Hohenschwangau, Germany, Aug 11-14

The view from our hotel room. We stayed at Hotel Alpenstuben.
The horse-drawn carriages take people up to see both Hohenschwangau
(Maxmillian II's castle) and Neuschwanstein (Ludwig II's castle). It's very
"touristy" here. These romantic castles are a tremendous draw.

The balcony of our room. It was a small room, but very close
to Neuschwanstein castle. Pat got tickets very early to both
castles, and we didn't have to worry about transportation.

Our room at Hotel Alpenstuben. This is a very typical room
at a German or Swiss hotel. There are no sheets, only down-filled coverlets.

On Sunday we took the funicular up to the top of Tegel Berg. The view of
Neuschwanstein castle is excellent from the cable car. This shows
the entrance, facaded in brick. Schloss means castle, and Berg means
mountain. König means king. Therefore, Königschloss means the king's
castle, and Christkönig means Christ the King.
